Accessible artist residencies

The residency operators in Finland will come together again on March 23rd (10.0011.30 am) and April 27th. In March, we will discuss how to organize accessible residencies for artists in need of special support.

Speakers:
Maija
Karhunen, Project Director, Culture for All Service
Sirpa Taulu, Director, Kettuki Association

Maija Karhunen, will talk about her experience in organizing accessible artist residencies. The aim of the project “Making space for artistry – equity for disabled artists and artists who are Sign Language users” is to strengthen the professional opportunities and equity of disabled artists in the art field. They have organized accessible residencies in Tornio and Haparanda. The residencies in 2022 were produced in cooperation with the Culture for All service, the Aine Art Museum and the cities of Tornio and Haparanda.

Sirpa Taulu will talk about Kettuki Associations’ cooperation with residency providers and Kettuki’s role and expertise in supporting the artists facing barriers with their artistic practice. Kettuki has recently collaborated for instance with Porvoo Art Factory residency and Serlachius residency.  Kettuki is Finland’s nationwide studio network for artists from outside the mainstream art world.
